A devastating theft has left a family-run butcher shop in West Sussex struggling to fulfill their Christmas orders. On Thursday morning, a white Ford Transit Custom van, containing over £2,000 worth of Christmas meat deliveries, was stolen from Cuckfield, according to Sussex Police.
A Blow to a Family's Livelihood
Paula Hutchings, owner of SK Hutchings in Partridge Green, described the incident as heartbreaking, saying, “[It has] nearly broken us.” The refrigerated van was fully stocked with homemade sausages, home-cured bacon, and high-quality meats sourced from the family’s farm.
“This van represents the family’s livelihood,” Ms. Hutchings told BBC Radio Sussex. “Now, we not only have to redo all of the orders but also find another refrigerated van to make deliveries possible.”
A Plea for Help
Ms. Hutchings expressed her gratitude to customers for their patience during this challenging time and urged the public to report any unusual sales of large quantities of sausages and bacon. “Please be on the lookout for anyone suddenly offering bulk amounts of these products for sale,” she added.
Police Appeal
Sussex Police confirmed they have launched a “widespread search effort” to recover the stolen van. Authorities are also urging anyone with information regarding the theft to come forward.
